I graduated from Allard Law, LLMCL program, in 2020. However, my career did not start there. I am originally from Colombia, where I graduated from La Sabana University Law School (Hons.) in 2005. I also hold an LLM (Cum Laude) degree from Utrecht University in International Law, Human Rights and Criminal Justice. I have experience working in refugee law, international humanitarian law, internal conflict law, and public policy in human rights. In the past, I worked with UNHCR’s implementing agencies as a legal advisor and have worked as a legal advisor, field researcher and legal director for NGOs and government agencies in South America, Europe and Asia.
After 15 years working in human rights, I decided to make a significant change in my life, prioritizing my wellbeing and personal growth. This meant radical changes to my legal practice and even changing legal systems! I could not have done it without the support from my family, my partner, my friends, colleagues, mentors and advisors who have accompanied me through this journey.
Being a foreign trained lawyer in the path to becoming a lawyer in Canada is a great learning experience. I am currently doing my articling at Davis Avis Randall Barrister and Solicitors in Parksville, BC.
