Pioneer. Trail blazer. Student. Teacher.
Walking my walk, I have been interested in well-being since my mid-teens when I began the study of yoga. This lead to wanting to understood more about my mind, and the mind of others, thus a foray into psychology and spiritual practices. I left my home in the city, at the ripe young age of 21, 1977, wanting to travel the world. I made it from Calgary to Coombs… I delved into studies of herbology, massage, tai chi and everything alternative. I began sewing for a living, upcycling textiles and remodelling clothing, I worked part time in a health store. I bought a cabin in the woods, had a baby at home with no water nor electricity on site… A teacher showed up, literally in my back yard, and my passion for Bodymind Acupressure awoke. 1986, I opened a “wellness” centre in this (then) small community, providing a location for practitioners of yoga, massage and counselling, as well as education seminars and courses for the seekers. I studied new modalities(more than once, in the first Canadian training): qigong, body-centered psychotherapy, meditation, watsu, sound healing, laughter yoga… I volunteered in my community: C0-Op Board of Directors, District 69 stroke group, OWBN, Ravensong children’s swim club, Restorative Justice. My son grew up and I began to go out, further into the world, teaching acupressure in Norway, Italy, England, USA and Asia. I have given my time and care to very disadvantaged children and teens in Cambodia and to villagers in India . More recently, I have had contract work as a Visiting Expert Practitioner, with Six Senses, at several of their award winning spas and resorts in Middle East and the Maldives. I continue to give my attention to my own well-being, and throughout it all, I have maintained a private therapy practice from my rural home in Coombs.
My time with clients and students is about them. Their wellness. Their self-awareness. I continue to follow my early teachings from Chinese medicine which is about pro-actively being healthy. What I can legally say, is that I practice relaxation therapy. And really, isn’t the ability to relax, the key to everything?
