Ms Lisa F KerwinFamily & Estate Lawyer & Accredited Family Law Mediator Davis Avis Randall Barristers & Solicitors
Family Law and Wills & Estates ✰ Case Management ✰ Mediation & Settlement ✰ Negotiation
I lived all of my young adult life in the Yukon. After a time in hotel management, raising three daughters and undergraduate studies in psychology and sociology, I completed law school at the University of Calgary and was called to the Bar in Alberta in early 2007.
I practiced largely as a sole practitioner in Calgary, Alberta for 9 years focusing on family and estate law. I advocated for clients in both Provincial and Queen’s Bench courts in Alberta.
I was called to the BC Bar in April 2016 and relocated to Parksville with my husband and our dog to commence work at Davis Avis Randall and enjoy Island living.
I practice primarily family law and wills and estates and am an accredited Family Law Mediator, able to assist with family or estate mediation.
► I am a logical, analytical, and highly-personable professional with expertise in quickly identifying and prioritizing legal issues and guiding clients toward harmonious resolution where practicable. Over the course of my career I have worked with a small, full-service firm; operated a home-based sole practice; shared a rural practice in central Alberta and operated a very successful sole practice in Calgary. I am currently a Senior Associate Lawyer and accredited Family Mediator at Davis Avis Randall in Parksville, British Columbia.
Philosophy & Approach:
► My philosophy on dealing with complex legal issues experienced by families is that mediation and negotiated settlements are far healthier for the preservation of relationships, especially where children are concerned. I also recognize that there are matters that require litigation and as such I have gained broad experience in litigating contentious family law and estate matters in both Provincial and Superior Courts in Alberta and British Columbia.
Continuous Professional Development:
► I regularly attend continuing education lectures and seminars presented by the Canadian Bar Association and the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and other organizations. I have also incorporated Elder Law into my practice as our aging population faces issues specific to their circumstances. I sat as Co-Chair of the CBA Elder Law Section, Alberta South in 2015.
Additional Value Offered:
► I am an effective communicator with extensive mediation and negotiation experience and a proven ability to manage complex, contentious cases. Widely regarded as a competent litigator with proficient oral and written advocacy skills, I am a strong researcher and life-long learner with a passion for family dispute resolution.
