Restore & Revive: Cultivating a Resilience Practice

Date: 18 April 2023
Time: 5:30 pm
Location: Bayside Resort (240 Dogwood St, Parksville, BC)

It is impossible to get through life without varying degrees of adversity.  Some of our challenges are byproducts of our choices, like moving to a new community or changing jobs, while others come into our lives like unwelcome house guests.

Like a sailboat that is prepared for all conditions, what if we could trust in ourselves to weather the storms?  With a healthy resilience practice, this is possible.

Why do you need resilience?  Resilience is the ability to "bounce back" or recover from challenging events.  A resilience practice is critical for maintaining our mental health and overall well-being.
Over the past two years, Cindy Thompson has been studying resilience and learning from the lived experience of her guests on A Resilience Project podcast.  Drawing on 30 + years in the counselling field and the distilled practices of her guests on the podcast, Cindy will introduce you to evidence-based resilience practices to help you thrive.

Topics that will be covered include:

  •         The value of having a resilience skill set
  •         The difference between "white-knuckling it through" and thriving
  •         Getting clear on our values can serve as a guide in the decisions we make
  •         How to revive and restore your sense of well-being
  •         Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable

Cindy Thompson Bio
Over the past 30 years Cindy has been fully immersed in the psychology behind personal transformation, overcoming adversity, capitalizing on strengths, and discovering possibilities.   Having accompanied thousands of individuals on their journey to personal and professional success she has an undeniable belief in human potential.
With a Master of Science in Psychology from Capella University, Cindy is the sole proprietor of a private counselling practice in Parksville, BC.  In 2020 Cindy completed the Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University and is the co-founder of Thompson Leadership Coaching with her husband Robert.   Cindy serves as a coach for Leadership Vancouver Island, a non-profit community-focused leadership development program and is the host of “A Resilience Project” podcast.

February is heart month and the time when we share ours with our community

Date: 21 February 2023
Time: 5:30 pm
Location: Quality Foods Parksville, Upstairs Lounge in the Library Room

February is always heart month for OWBN and this year we are doubling the sentiment.

First, this is when we show our solidarity with women in our community who have been forced to leave their homes. While we fundraise year-round for Haven Society, in February we also collect gently used handbags and unopened personal items. We encourage you to bring your items or cash donations to this event where we will be presenting Haven Society with the proceeds donated throughout the year by our generous members & guests.

Second, we are going to make the evening all about you, your business or profession and what’s important to you. This evening will be all about getting to know each other and our professional & personal endeavours. Be prepared for a high energy, fun night of networking games and activities.

Tired of not getting what you want?

Whether it's hiring someone to help with your business or hiring someone to do work around the house we often find ourselves disappointed.
In this workshop, Angela will take you through a step-by-step process to break down the approach needed to clarify expectations and desired results.

Her childhood fascination with the creative process and human behaviour lead Angela to post-graduate education in Behavioural Psychology and Human Resources Management and eventual entrepreneurialism.  Starting her first business in 1994, Angela has grown 3 companies.  Her second business was sold once it grew to a team of 25 people.  Combining her knowledge and experience from running her own businesses with the experiences of her clients, she has created highly effective People Solutions that have an immediate impact on the bottom line and increase business value over time.
